Traditional wedding venues just aren’t your style. I hear you.
You want something chic, industrial, mysterious.
Or maybe your style is more magical, whimsical, and eclectic.
You want to surprise your family and friends with somewhere unexpected. Or maybe you want to escape together for a private elopement off the beaten path.
Whether you want European sophistication or West Coast simplicity, as your Vancouver Wedding Photographer, I’ve got you covered.
Here are my favourite alternative Vancouver wedding venues!
Brix & Mortar | Elegant Courtyard & Dining House
Brix & Mortar hosts stunning alternative weddings.
They were even featured in Weddingbells Loveliest Wedding Venues in 2018!
Known for its industrial chic vibe and unique food and wine experience, it’s easy to see why. Located in a 1912 heritage building, this iconic Yaletown dining house offers a variety of spaces for your wedding.
Upstairs, the glass-covered courtyard is heated and illuminated for ambiance and comfort. It’s perfect for a unique but sophisticated wedding. The courtyard can seat up to 32 guests for a private reception dinner.
The downstairs outdoor patio courtyard is popular for wedding ceremonies. The walls are covered in ivy and the space features a seven-tier glass chandelier!
As for the inside of the restaurant, the large dining hall can accommodate up to 90 guests for a reception dinner, or 120 guests for a stand-up cocktail reception. And, the restaurant has a variety of private nooks. Can you imagine the intimate photo opportunities?
There are wedding packages available, starting with the basic “ceremony only” package which includes everything you need from comfortable chairs, a signing table, and all the beautiful greenery and illumination you could ever want. You’ll have the courtyard space for 2 hours plus a 30-minute window for setup.
You’ll also be able to hold a rehearsal, have access to their sound system, a water station, and coat rack, as well as 2 staff members available to help.
Request their event and wedding package at events@brixandmortar.ca.
Brix & Mortar has to be one of the most unique and elegant alternative wedding venues in Vancouver!
L’Abattoir | European x West Coast Alternative Wedding Venue
You might be familiar with L’Abattoir, located on Vancouver’s first real alley: Blood Alley. Maybe you’ve even hung out at this European-style bar after work.
But did you know about the private dining room on the second level? Perfect for an intimate, sophisticated wedding!
Available for private events seven days a week, this wedding venue is an industrial-chic dream of warm wood, glass, and exposed brick.
This space is intimate and moody with an ambient glow. 1,200 sq ft of private dining space seats a maximum of 50. It can be divided into two smaller spaces with wood pull-out doors creating a private, noise-reducing barrier.
For your French-inspired West Coast reception lunch or dinner, you can book the entire space with 2 long wooden tables, or divide it into sections for up to 20 people with half-tables.
Featuring a private bar area, AV, and coat check, customizations are also available.
You can even hold your intimate reception in the private dining space, with understated, elegant benches provided.
Can you just imagine gathering here with your closest family and friends for your intimate wedding?
The Loft at Earl’s Yaletown | A Modern Vintage Wedding
Located on the second level of Earls Yaletown, The Loft features a modern vintage vibe with a contemporary feel.
With over 3,400 square feet available in this mid-century-inspired space, the open-concept lounge seats 40 and features a gorgeous bar and the coolest eclectic touches.
The classy brick-and-beam private room makes a perfect ceremony space. And if the lounge isn’t large enough for your reception, your entire wedding reception dinner for up to 96 people can be set up in the private room as well! Banquet tables or long tables, buffet or customized menu, it’s your choice!
The Loft even has a professional events team to help plan every last detail. You can experiment with flexible seating arrangements while planning your wedding. There’s audiovisual equipment available for your event, and no shortage of photo opportunities.
The Loft feels youthful, welcoming, and just casual enough. This is the perfect space for a Vancouver Wedding!
Sage & Solace Farm | Retro Style & Simplicity
Let’s talk about Sage & Solace Farm in Langley, only an hour from Vancouver.
This working farm with 20 acres of country pastures was inspired by love: a love for the land, and for healing the mind, body, and spirit.
This is one of my favourite places in the world to create art. The vintage aesthetic is everything!
You will fall in love with the cutest retro-styled trailer that can be used for serving coffee, dessert, or anything you like.
Illuminate the garden for tables… or dance floor!!
The covered barn area can be used to serve food with a large area for a catering company. Oh, and did I mention the bar??
As for the farmhouse, there are two suites available.
There’s the bridal suite with a full-length mirror and bedrooms for the bridal party to prepare for the big reveal. Your love and his or her party can use the 950 square foot garden view suite with a full kitchen for pre-ceremony celebration drinks!
You can have a large wedding with up to 100 guests, but this venue is also perfect for an intimate ceremony… or a steamy elopement. Read to the end for more…
An event planner is recommended, but your hosts can help with planning including recommendations for florists and a photographer (ahem – that would be me!).
This space is a blank slate for you to create anything you like. Everything you need is available! There is even an 850-square-foot space in the farmhouse in case of rain, and your hosts can provide two witnesses for the most intimate of weddings.
There are public washroom facilities, and plenty of free parking.
Sage & Solace Farm is one of the most magical venues around, with an energy that can only be described as enchanting. I simply love it here, and you will, too.
The Greenhouse Venue | A Bohemian Dream
Just over an hour’s drive from Vancouver, The Greenhouse is tucked away in the woods at the base of Sumas Mountain where you can live out the romantic, whimsical elopement of your dreams.
This space is simply perfect for any alternative intimate gathering.
The sweetest details stand out against the rustic simplicity of this customizable space. A simple chandelier, stained glass, and a wood-burning stove.
Dance underneath the lanterns, green garlands, and glass dome roof with the forest canopy above you.
The covered Pavilion space is nearby for your long table reception dinner.
The deluxe package for up to 24 people will give you all-day access from 9 am to midnight, plus a rehearsal dinner, as well as a variety of decorations, props, tables, and chairs through Woodpecker Rentals.
For an even more intimate experience, there is a mini package available that will give you 4 hours including setup and takedown.
The Greenhouse is pure magic. This romantic alternative venue will sweep you off your feet!
